French-language draw #450: what CRS 435 means for you

In French-language round #450 on 2026-10-16, IRCC invited 5,000 candidates, and the lowest CRS score invited was 435. That is higher than the three previous French rounds listed here (382, 391, 399). Candidates need NCLC 7 or higher in all four French abilities to qualify for this category.

What happened in this French-language draw?

According to the IRCC rounds page, round #450 took place on 2026-10-16. IRCC issued 5,000 invitations, and the lowest CRS score invited was 435.

The lowest score invited is the cut-off: candidates in the French-language category whose CRS score was at or above it were in range for an invitation. Anyone below 435 was not invited in this round, even with strong French, because the category sets the language requirement and the CRS score sets the ranking.

Read the figures directly on the official IRCC rounds of invitations page, which lists each round's date, size and lowest CRS score invited. Compare your own total CRS score with 435 before anything else: that single comparison tells you whether your profile was within reach of this round.

How does it compare with the previous French-language rounds?

The table below places round #450 next to the three previous French-language rounds, using only the figures published on the IRCC rounds page. Take from it the direction of the cut-off, not a forecast.

RoundDateInvitationsLowest CRS invited
#4292026-07-225,000399
#4332026-08-065,000391
#4372026-08-195,000382
#4502026-10-165,000435

The size stayed at 5,000 invitations in all four rounds. The cut-off fell across the first three rounds listed (399, then 391, then 382), then rose to 435 in round #450, which is the highest of the four.

A single round does not set a trend. Each cut-off depends on who is in the pool on the day, so treat 435 as the most recent data point rather than the new normal. If your score sat between 382 and 435, you would have been above the earlier cut-offs but below this one. For a running view, see our page on Express Entry French-language draws.

Who can be invited in these rounds?

IRCC's category-based selection includes a French-language proficiency category. It requires NCLC 7 or higher in all four abilities: listening, speaking, reading and writing. One ability below NCLC 7 means the category does not apply to your profile.

For the TCF Canada, NCLC 7 corresponds to these scores in the official IRCC equivalence:

For the TEF Canada, NCLC 7 corresponds to 310 to 348 in speaking and writing, 249 to 279 in listening and 207 to 232 in reading. You can convert your own results with the NCLC calculator.

French also adds to your CRS score. IRCC's grid gives 25 additional points for NCLC 7 or higher in all four French abilities with English at CLB 4 or lower (or no English test), and 50 points with English at CLB 5 or higher in all four abilities. Our guide to CRS points for French shows how these fit into your total.

What should you do if your score is below the cut-off?

First, compare your own total CRS score with 435 and, for context, with the earlier cut-offs of 382, 391 and 399. If you are above 435, your French level is not the obstacle. If you are below, the gap tells you how much you need to close.

Then look at where your French points come from. IRCC's grid awards more points per ability as your level rises. For the first official language, per ability, CLB 7 gives 16 points with a spouse or 17 without, CLB 8 gives 22 or 23, CLB 9 gives 29 or 31, and CLB 10 or above gives 32 or 34. For example, going from CLB 7 to CLB 8 in one ability is worth 6 points with a spouse or without, and the same step applies to each of the four abilities.

A practical order of work:

  1. Identify your weakest of the four abilities, since the category needs NCLC 7 in all four.
  2. Take a free level check to see where you stand: the free instant level test takes 30 seconds of speech or a short text. Its result is an estimate, not an official result.
  3. Practise the two productive skills under test conditions with the speaking test and the writing test.
  4. Retake the official test only when your practice results are stable, as results are valid for two years.

Practice changes how well you perform on the day; it does not guarantee a score. Recheck the IRCC rounds page after each round, as the cut-off moves.

Questions candidates ask

What was the CRS cut-off in French-language draw 450?

According to the IRCC rounds page, the lowest CRS score invited in round #450, held on 2026-10-16, was 435. IRCC issued 5,000 invitations in that round. Candidates scoring below 435 were not invited in this draw, whatever their French level.

How many invitations were issued in the French draw?

Round #450 on 2026-10-16 issued 5,000 invitations, according to IRCC. The three earlier French-language rounds quoted in this article (#429, #433 and #437) also issued 5,000 invitations each, so the size stayed the same while the cut-off changed from round to round.

What NCLC level do I need for French category draws?

IRCC's French-language proficiency category requires NCLC 7 or higher in all four abilities: listening, speaking, reading and writing. A level below NCLC 7 in any one ability means the category does not apply to your profile, even if the other three abilities are higher.

Can I be invited with NCLC 7 and a low CRS score?

NCLC 7 in all four abilities makes you eligible for the French-language category, but an invitation also depends on your total CRS score reaching the round's cut-off. In round #450 that cut-off was 435, so a lower total was not invited in that round.

Does the French draw cut-off always go down or up?

No. Among the rounds quoted here the cut-off fell from 399 to 391 to 382, then rose to 435 in round #450. Each round depends on the candidates in the pool on the day, so one result is not a reliable forecast of the next cut-off.

How many CRS points does French add to my profile?

IRCC's grid gives 25 additional points for NCLC 7 or higher in all four French abilities with English at CLB 4 or lower or no English test, and 50 points if English is CLB 5 or higher in all four. These come on top of the points for your first official language.
